WINE CEREMONIES
Wine and Champagne have always been associated with weddings. In fact, the reason we say "to toast" comes from an ancient french wedding ceremony where the couple would share a glass of wine from a two-handled chalice, a piece of toast was literally floating in the wine to take out the acidity of the wine. So it literally is a toast. Wine is quite a like love if you think about it. It takes warmth, time, and feeding to grow the fruit to make the wine. It must be handled gently and with care. It must be protected in hard times and cherished in good times. Like love, it gets better with time and can always be shared with family and friends. Many couples choose to have a wine box ceremony these days. There are many variations, and a ceremony can be tailored to suit a couple.
One such ceremony is, the couple chooses a bottle of wine. They seal it in a box with love letters and love trinkets to remind them of the day and why they fell in love. It can be a simple wine box or something specially made for the day. The couple seals the box, like a time capsule of their love and wedding day.
Some couples choose to open it on their first anniversary or a later one. However, if times get hard in a marriage, you can always open it and remember why you love this person and choose life with them. If for some reason people you love cannot attend the wedding, you can also place another bottle in a box for them. You can then have a wedding drink with them at a later date. Some couples choose to have a bottle of wine brought from each family, representing different tastes and variety.
The celebrant will have a ceremony picked with the couple to represent their ideas and values. This can be just before the vows and exchange of rings. So ladies and gentlemen a toast to the happy couple.
